haven't had a chance to use it yet but for the cost it certainly seems to be worth what I paid for it
I used it to correct some bowing studs, and to bevel new door slabs. While not the best planer out there, for the $55 price tag it works. If you are doing exacting woodworking I'm sure you'll be disappointed. It handled both jobs with ease. The cutter is sharp, and the shoe was true.
This plane is not well finished and lacks an accurate depth adjustment. While it's cheap I think the also cheap Ryobi does a better job albeit without carbide blades.
Don't let the low price scare you into thinking that the Freud FE82K is a "home-owner" grade power tool, because it's not. Quite simply the Freud FE82K is the finest power planer that I've ever used. It's pro-grade inside and out and made for daily use. and I've used a number of them including the best current and older models from Bosch and Porter-Cable. This power planer feels perfectly balanced, is very smooth running, and looks like is built to last. I have no idea why it's price so low on Amazon.com, but I'm not complaining. If you are looking to upgrade your present power planer or buying your first, you will be pleased with the Freud FE82K.
